Stuart - A Life Backwards - by Alexander Masters

I received this WBN book from Rob at my Writers Group.

I lived for 25 years in Cambridge and knew of the Wintercomfort project and the issues surrounding the imprisonment of the 'Cambridge 2'
I enjoyed this true story written in an empathetic way without being sentimental.

Gritty and dramatic - thanks Rob I wil pass it on for others to enjoy

Toast by Nigel Slater

One of the World Book Night books recieved at Waterstone's Arc Bury St Edmunds 5 March 2011.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book, but what a pleasant surprise! interesting, witty and full of the sort of foods we used to eat.

Easy to read.

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This is the title I was lucky enough to receive 48 copies to give away as part of the first World Book Night.

I have read this book twice now and really enjoyed it both times.  In fact I feel I gained more from the re-reading.

A story of war, love, refugees, falls from grace, starvation, hope in the face of adversity - all somehow without being over shocking or sentimental. A moving, beautifully written portrait of how war affects us as human beings, of how emotions, needs, hopes and fears carry through from peace time to war and beyond.

If you received one of my copies (my name - Helen Houghton) is in the back, please make a comment

Read it, Blog it, Share it!

Please note this is not the official World Book Night site- you need to register your book on their website.

Thank you for taking the time to read this book, please tell me who you received it from, where you live and who you passed it on to.

World Book Night 2011

I was lucky enough to be one of the people chosen to participate in the first World Book Night.  I will be collecting 48 copies of Half of  a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie from Waterstone's Bookstore at the Arc in Bury St Edmunds on 5 March 2011.  I chose this book from the 25 titles because I first read it on recommendation from a friend in Cambridge who had been recommended it by a relative in Denmark.  I would like to see just how far these 48 books can travel.  In the spirit of reading and sharing good books I will be giving the books away in various ways.  I would like everyone who receives a copy and reads it to share their thoughts about the book on this blog and to pass it on
